MERCH: Produce Planning Cards™ for Agile Teams

Planning cards help agile teams estimate work. Products for sale typically involve cards with numbers (exempli gratia, 0 … 34) or sometimes alternatives such as t-shirt sizes (exempli gratia, XS … XL).
Custom agile planning cards, Produce Planning Cards™, were created by Exceptional PPM and PMO Solutions™. They feature a unique combination of both number values and images of fruit. For example, the 1 card has the number 1 and a picture of a blueberry, while the 34 card has the number 34 and a picture of a pineapple. With these cards, estimators can reference the numbers, the different size fruit, or both. "Produce" in the name of the cards has a double meaning: It relates to both the noun produce (specifically fruit) and the verb produce (as in to create). This is explained below.
The Produce Planning Cards™ were originally developed as a promotional item, distributed to clients of Exceptional PPM and PMO Solutions™. Reactions were incredibly positive, and several people subsequently asked how they could get their own set. Based on demand, Produce Planning Cards™ are now available for purchase while supplies last. This brief article provides an overview and update on the product.
The Development Team—which may be comprised of business analysts, coders, testers, etc.—collaboratively estimates each item in the product backlog in story points. Story points are a relative measure of complexity.

Additional Information Including Suggested Usage
The Development Team—which may be comprised of business analysts, coders, testers, etc.—collaboratively estimates each item in the product backlog in story points. Story points are a relative measure of complexity.

- Scrum Master (facilitator/observer)
Frequency
- Once or twice per sprint
Time-box (not to exceed duration)
- One hour for each week of the sprint
- It’s a common practice to limit each meeting to one hour and have multiple meetings as appropriate
Prerequisites/Inputs
- Product backlog containing user stories, bugs, and other requirements
- One set of planning cards for each member of the Development Team
Suggested Steps
- 1. If each member of the Development Team does not already have their own set of planning cards, the Scrum Master provides materials as needed
- 2. The Product Owner describes an item (a user story, bug, or other requirement) from the product backlog and mentions its intent and business value
- 3. Each member of the Development Team silently picks a card best representing their assessment of the complexity of the work and places the card face-down
- 4. After all of the Development Team members have made their selections, the cards are turned face-up, and the values are read aloud
- 5. If all of the selections have the same value, the Product Owner records it as the estimate, and that completes the exercise for the item; otherwise, proceed to the next step
- 6. Team member(s) who gave an outlier value —such as someone who gave a high value and/or someone who gave a low value—explain their reasoning
- 7. After a brief discussion, the team may take the most common value (the mode average) as the estimate or they may play another round of this planning game (steps 3-7)
- 8. Steps 2-7 are repeated until each item in the product backlog has been estimated
- 9. The Product Owner updates the product backlog with the estimate values
Options
Some organizations use a subset of the cards and slice product backlog items when the estimate is "too large." Here's an example:
- Development Team uses cards with the following values: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and 21
- Predetermined that 21 is "too large"
- If a product backlog item is estimated at 21, it is sliced into two or more parts in collaboration with the Product Owner, and the resulting smaller items are estimated by the Development Team

Consensus on the Most Valuable Information Technology Related Certifications: 2023 Update

Exceptional PPM and PMO Solutions first reported on the most valuable Information Technology (IT) certifications in 2017. As technology advances and the marketplace changes over time, the skills and knowledge required to succeed may also change. Accordingly, we periodically update our related reporting. The prior version was published in 2022. This article provides the new, 2023 version.
In Technology, there's no substitute for experience. However, certifications remain a valuable tool for advancing one's career. Employers want candidates (and employees) with up-to-date knowledge and skills, and certifications demonstrate a person’s mastery of the respective subject. Data from multiple sources — including CIO, Robert Half, Indeed, PC Magazine, Skillsoft, Statista, and ComputerScience.org — were compiled and analyzed to determine the general consensus on the most valuable IT related certifications. Fifteen emerged. Here they are, in alphabetical order:
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, offered from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- AWS Certified Security – Specialty, offered from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, offered from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, offered from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), offered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), offered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), offered by the International System Security Certification Consortium (ISC).
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), offered from Scrum Alliance.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), offered by Cisco.
- Google Cloud: Cloud Digital Leader, offered by Google.
- Google Cloud: Professional Cloud Architect, offered by Google.
- Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect, offered by Microsoft.
- Nutanix Certified Professional – Multicloud Infrastructure (NCP-MCI), offered by Nutanix.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), offered from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), offered by VMware.
Many employers prefer to hire certified professionals, especially those who also have college degrees and successful work experience. Those who invest in professional credentials typically enjoy larger salaries.

Introduction
Scott M. The National Health Service (NHS) — the Largest Single-Payer Healthcare System in Europe — Violated Graffius’ Intellectual Property Rights
Here's information on the NHS’s infringing publication:

Exhibit 2 is shown below and attached. It provides excerpts from the NHS’s ‘System Convening’ infringing publication, which was delivered at the ‘NHS Trusts and Primary Care Collaboration Knowledge Sharing Event’ on 16 October 2024 (recorded and published as a video). The exhibit shows:

The NHS (inclusive of its entities and people) did not request nor receive permission to use Graffius’ 2021 copyrighted property.
Nevertheless, the NHS used Graffius’ 2021 copyrighted property in its 2024 infringing publication.
NHS’s infringing 2024 publication used a significant volume of Graffius’ 2021 copyrighted property.
NHS’s infringing 2024 publication failed to acknowledge Graffius' ownership of his respective content, thereby misleading others including the public into believing that it, the NHS, is the author and rightful owner of Graffius' intellectual property.
A review of the NHS’s 2024 publication uncovered a slew of infringing content.

As shown in Exhibit 3 above, the NHS blatantly infringed on Graffius’ copyright.
The NHS’s infringing 2024 publication used Graffius’ 2021 copyrighted content word-for-word.
In what is reasonably considered to be the NHS’s demonstration of its knowing and willful infringement, the NHS author(s) of the infringing 2024 publication seemed to attempt to conceal their theft by slightly altering some words. The NHS author(s) localized some content (such as changing "socializing" to "socialising") and made a few other slight alterations (such as changing "&" to "and"). All of that is still infringement.

The NHS’s use of Graffius’ 2021 copyrighted property was not ‘fair dealing’ nor ‘fair use’ nor otherwise allowed.
Copyright infringement is disgraceful, unprofessional, unethical, immoral, and illegal.
So long as the NHS’s infringing material exists anywhere, in any form, the NHS continues to spread misinformation and violate Graffius’ intellectual property rights. Accordingly, time is of the essence.
The NHS must immediately implement the following two (2) actions:
- Remove the Infringing Material. Electronic Versions: Immediately remove the infringing material (any and all publications/products with infringement) from digital platforms where it is advertised, promoted, sold, or distributed; this includes removing or disabling any online access to it. Physical Copies: If physical copies of the infringing material are in inventory or circulation, stop further distribution; recall any copies already distributed; destroy copies.
- Issue an Apology. Send a written apology to Graffius. It will acknowledge the infringement and the steps taken (such as Action 1, above) to mitigate the situation. The apology will present the facts as they are—it will not "spin" or "downplay" the infringement.
Time is of the essence. Both actions must be fulfilled by 6:00 PM Pacific Time on Friday, 15 November 2024. By doing so, the NHS will convey transparency, professionalism, integrity, accountability, and respect. However, if the NHS fails to do so, it will conversely demonstrate a lack of transparency, a lack of professionalism, a lack of integrity, a lack of accountability, and a lack of respect.
Copyrights protect the intellectual property rights of creators, ensuring they receive recognition and compensation for their work, thus incentivizing creativity and innovation. Mr. Graffius maintains, enforces, and protects his copyright and other intellectual property rights.
